The Flu Vaccine
The seasonal flu vaccine (flu jab) protects against 4 strains of flu virus. These are the strains most likely to be circulating this flu season.
The vaccine is available, free of charge, every year to adults and children at risk of flu and its complications.
There are three flu vaccines available this year.
Fluad Tetra:
This is an adjuvant quadrivalent inactivated Influenza vaccine (aQIV) for people aged 65 years and overQuadrivalent Influenza Vaccine (QIV) (split virion, inactivated):
QIV is recommended for children aged 6 months β 23 months and for adults aged 18 to 64 years who are at increased risk of influenza and itβs complications.Fluenz Tetra, a live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV):
This is an intra-nasal application and is recommended for all children aged 2 years to 17 years at the time of vaccination (unless they have a contraindication).
Who should receive a flu vaccine:
All adults and children at risk of flu and its complications should receive a flu vaccine.
